AGARTALA, 21 JUNE: The President, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, today called for further strengthening of Indo-Bangla ties to help the overall development of the South East Asian region.
Dedicating the first unit of Tripura&’s 726 megawatt gas-based power plant to the nation at Palatana near here, the President said India and Bangladesh should increase cooperation in the power sector. He specially thanked the President, Prime Minister and Government of Bangladesh for their support in making the Rs 10,000 crore project a reality by extending help to India&’s oil PSU, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation.
The first unit of the mega power project was built for Rs 3,804 crore.
It has started generating electricity and the second 363.3 MW unit is expected to commence operations in August.
Mr Mukherjee said this power project in a land-locked, logistically challenged and difficult terrain is an important feat.
