Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra has sought Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma’s intervention to ensure that the state government bears the entire cost of treatment for the women who have sought euthanasia to escape the trauma of kidney failure they developed following complications after caesarean deliveries.

As many as five women suffering from kidney failure, which they developed after undergoing caesarean deliveries at two hospitals in Kota in May, submitted a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday.

In the memorandum, they appealed to the President to either arrange immediate kidney transplants for them or allow them to opt for euthanasia, saying they were no longer in a position to endure the trauma of undergoing dialysis twice a week.

Seeking the CM’s intervention in the matter, Dotasra, a former minister, said, “It is a matter of shame that the daughters of our state are compelled to seek euthanasia for want of treatment.”

“Until recently, Rajasthan’s healthcare model and Right to Health were a matter of pride and were praised across the country. In contrast, the rising number of post-caesarean maternal deaths has become a matter of concern for everyone,” Dotasra wrote on social media platform ‘X’ on Thursday.

He claimed that around 20 post-caesarean maternal deaths had been reported in Kota, Jodhpur, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Nagaur and Banswara over the past month.

“Nothing can be more embarrassing or worrisome for any government than this situation,” he wrote.

Dotasra urged the state government to bear the entire cost of treatment for the affected women to protect both the government’s image and Rajasthan’s reputation.
