Cong’s claim of south being alien territory for BJP is hogwash: Shehzad
Speaking to The Statesman in an exclusive interview, the BJP spokesperson said his party has been responsible to take 25 crore people of the country out of poverty.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi, while addressing the Kisaan Abhaar Sammelan in Atal Nagar, Chhattisgarh, said if his party is voted to power in the forthcoming elections, then it will take a step that no party has ever taken.
“We have now taken a step that no government has taken before. We have decided to give every poor person a Minimum Income Guarantee when we form the government. This is a historic step taken to eradicate hunger and poverty,” said Gandhi.
The plan is meant for entire India, not just Congress-ruled states, he said. “No one in the country will be hungry or poor. We will launch it in all states. We do not want two Indias,” he said.

This poll promise has come close on the heels of the Modi government’s move to provide 10 per cent quota for the economically backward belonging to the general category.
Attacking the Modi government, the Congress president said whenever Congress took up the issue of farm loan waiver, the previous BJP government of Chhattisgarh denied claiming they had no money.
Targeting PM Modi, he said the chowkidar of India does not have Rs 6,000 crore for the farmers of Chhattisgarh but has Rs 30,000 crore for his friend Anil Ambani. He also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of favouring the rich and the powerful and neglecting the farmers and the poor.
Rahul Gandhi also distributed loan waiver certificates to some of the beneficiary farmers in the presence of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and senior Congress leader PL Punia.
Chhattisgarh’s Congress government had waived off over Rs 6,000 crore farmers’ loan in Chhattisgarh as it promised in the run-up to the Assembly elections which were held in November 2018.
The Congress had swept the state polls winning 68 of the 90 seats.
