Disappointed by the failure of Police to take timely action against the alleged molesters, a teenage girl and her mother reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison in the premises of SP Shamli’s office on Wednesday afternoon.

The two were immediately rushed to a hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

An official at the SP office told that cognizance has been taken in the matter and an enquiry ordered against Chausana police chowki in-charge Sub Inspector Deenu Singh.

On Wednesday afternoon, a 38-year-old woman arrived at the SP Shamli office along with her teenage daughter. The woman, who hails from village Khorsama in Jhinjhana area of district Shamli, wanted to meet SP Shamli Ajay Kumar, who, at that time, was on an inspection of a Kanwar route.

The woman then handed over a letter of complaint to the on-duty staff against Chalaana police chowki in charge. In her application, the woman had written that the Chausana police chowki in-charge Deenu Singh did not pay any heed to her complaint against some villagers who had been molesting her daughter. This has been going on for the past two months and the chowki in charge was not taking any action, she had stated in her complaint.

In order to get their voices heard and ensure the safety of her daughter, the woman had come to meet the SP on Wednesday to ask for justice. When she could not meet the officer, she consumed poison along with her daughter at the gate of the SP office.

This, however, is not the only incident where common people have been forced to attempt suicide as a result of police inaction over their grievances. Recently, a trader immolated himself at the gate of TP Nagar police station in Meerut and succumbed to his burn injuries during treatment at a Delhi hospital. He had complained against the manager and staff of a bank who leaked vital information of his bank account which resulted in huge financial losses to him. The trader was forced to take the drastic step as the police did not take any action against the bank manager and the staff as reported.
