Campaigning for second phase of polls ends in UP, polling on 26 April
Two Bollywood stars -- Hema Malini from Mathura and Arun Govil from Meerut -- will try their electoral fortunes in this phase.
A teenage girl created sensation in Meerut city after she reached the office of the senior superintendent of police with an aborted foetus of five months, drawing the attention of the police to her complaint of gangrape and forceful termination of pregnancy.
On the directions of SSP Rajesh Kumar Pandey, the area police accused of not paying heed to her complaint earlier, lodged an FIR and arrested one of the accused, Hasan.
The accused runs a dairy in Lisari Gate area of the city and the girl lived nearby. Last year, according to her complaint, Hasan and his friend Adil caught hold her when she was alone at home one day and gangraped her. They allegedly also made a video and continued her sexual exploitation, threatening to share the clip on social media.

The girl’s family got to know about all this only after she started showing some health issues and doctors said she was pregnant. When the family members approached the accused with the news of pregnancy, the complainant said, they offered money to hush up the matter and get an abortion done. But this was not acceptable to the girl and the family.
Adil allegedly forced the girl to take some medicines on May 15, which resulted in the termination of her five months’ pregnancy.
The accused allegedly mounted pressure on the girl’s family to reach a compromise and offered “Rs 30,000” to hush up the case. Upset family members then approached the Lisari Gate police to lodge a complaint against accused Adil, Hasan and one of their aides, but the police did not attend to their complaint, according to the family.
Getting no respite from the police even after her “forcible termination of pregnancy”, the victim met SSP Rajesh Kumar Pandey on Friday along with her mother and a few others, carrying the aborted foetus in a bag.
“A case of rape, forced abortion and also one under the POCSO Act have been lodged against accused Adil and Hasan, and Hasan was arrested on Friday night,” said SP (Sity) Ranvijay Singh, adding that raids were being conducted to arrest other accused.
