In the 127th episode of his monthly radio address ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday lauded the resilient spirit of India’s citizens this festive season, highlighting how lamps of joy illuminated even those regions once overshadowed by Maoist terror. Speaking during his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat, Modi emphasized the people’s strong desire for the complete eradication of Maoist violence, which had long threatened the future of their children.
“This time, the festive lamps of joy shone brightly even in places that were once shrouded in the darkness of Maoist terror,” the Prime Minister said. “The people living there have expressed a strong desire for the complete eradication of this menace. Their hope is now rekindled, and the light of peace and progress is gradually replacing the shadows of fear.”
Modi also spoke about the enthusiasm surrounding the government’s GST Bachat Utsav, a festival of savings launched to coincide with the festive season. He noted the encouraging rise in the purchase of indigenous products, thanks to growing consumer preference for locally made goods.
“During this festival season, something heartening has been observed: a significant rise in the purchase of indigenous products across markets,” Modi said. “Many people have shared messages with me, proudly listing the locally made goods they have chosen to buy this time.”
Further, the Prime Minister recalled his appeal to citizens to reduce edible oil consumption by 10 percent, a call that has witnessed a positive response. “Friends, in my earlier letter, I had urged everyone to reduce the consumption of edible oil by 10 percent — a call that has been met with an encouraging and positive response from the people,” he added.
Modi’s remarks underscore the government’s efforts to foster economic self-reliance while celebrating India’s rich cultural traditions, reflecting a nation united in progress and purpose during the festive season.
The Prime Minister lauding the enduring spirit of India’s cultural unity and progress, PM Modi highlighted the recent celebrations of Diwali and the ongoing devotion of Chhath Puja, which unite millions across Bihar, Jharkhand, and Purvanchal.
“Thekua is being prepared, ghats are adorned, and markets bustle with life. Everywhere, devotion, affection, and tradition converge,” Modi said, praising the dedication of women observing the Chhath Vrat. He called the festival a beautiful symbol of social harmony and encouraged all Indians, wherever they are, to experience its unique spirit.
Modi also shared inspiring stories of grassroots initiatives: in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, “Garbage Cafes” exchange meals for plastic waste, and in Bengaluru, engineer Kapil Sharma’s campaign to rejuvenate lakes is engaging corporates and communities alike. Highlighting nature’s role in resilience, Modi detailed Gujarat’s successful mangrove plantation efforts, which have bolstered marine biodiversity and benefited local fish farmers.
Turning to cultural heritage, Modi spoke passionately about the 150th birth anniversary of India’s national song, ‘Vande Mataram,’ celebrating its timeless message of patriotism and unity. He urged citizens to join in commemorative events and share their ideas using the hashtag #VandeMataram150.
In a heartfelt segment on Sanskrit, Modi applauded young content creators revitalizing the ancient language through social media, blending tradition with modernity and sparking renewed interest among youth.
The Prime Minister paid homage to tribal icons Komaram Bheem and Bhagwan Birsa Munda, whose courage and leadership inspired generations in the fight for justice and independence. Modi urged the youth to learn from their legacy and carry forward their spirit of resistance and unity.
Closing on an optimistic note, Modi acknowledged the flood of messages from listeners sharing stories of innovation and service from small towns and villages, encouraging continued social transformation through collective effort.
“We will meet again next month with fresh topics,” Modi said, signing off with a warm “Namaste,” reminding the nation of the power of culture, unity, and youthful energy in shaping India’s bright future.
