Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Wednesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being unable to stand up to US President Donald Trump due to the ongoing investigation into the Adani Group.
In a statement posted on his handle X, Gandhi claimed that Modi’s hands are tied because of the financial links between his government and the Adani Group, as well as Russian oil deals.
“India, please understand: The reason PM Modi cannot stand up to President Trump despite his repeated threats is the ongoing US investigation into Adani. One threat is to expose the financial links between Modi, AA, and Russian oil deals. Modi’s hands are tied,” Gandhi said in his post.
The Adani Group has been embroiled in a controversy over allegations of financial irregularities and stock manipulation. The US short-seller Hindenburg Research has accused the group of “brazen stock manipulation and accounting fraud scheme over the course of decades.” The investigation has raised concerns about the group’s governance and transparency.
Gandhi’s statement has sparked a fresh debate about the relationship between the Modi government and the Adani Group. The opposition leader has been vocal about the alleged nexus between the government and corporate interests, and this latest statement is likely to further intensify the controversy.
The government has denied any wrongdoing and has accused the Congress party of trying to malign the country’s image. The Adani Group has also rejected the allegations made by Hindenburg Research, calling them “malicious” and “manipulated.”
