Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a high-level meeting of secretaries from all Central ministries in New Delhi on Tuesday, with policy reforms and improving the ease of doing business expected to dominate the discussions.
The meeting, scheduled for 4 pm, comes as the government continues its push for administrative efficiency and regulatory reforms. It will be the Prime Minister’s second major interaction with the country’s top bureaucracy in less than two months.
The review follows a similar exercise held on May 21, when PM Modi brought together the Union Council of Ministers and Central secretaries to draw up regulatory roadmaps aligned with the government’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Governance reforms expected to remain in focus
During the May meeting, the Prime Minister urged officials to accelerate decision-making and reduce delays in government processes. He urged officials to ensure files move without unnecessary delays, make quicker decisions and simplify governance through structural reforms.
He also told officials that “Viksit Bharat 2047” was not merely a slogan but a long-term commitment of the government.
The earlier review also included an assessment of ministries’ performance. Ministries that ranked lower were advised to take corrective measures and improve their functioning.
Government’s performance review likely to continue
According to sources, the previous exercise was viewed as a mid-term assessment of the government’s performance.
The Council of Ministers had also congratulated the Prime Minister on the completion of his five-nation visit. The External Affairs Minister briefed the gathering on the outcomes and geopolitical significance of the tour.
During that meeting, PM Modi also directed ministers to engage more actively with the public and communicate the government’s achievements over the past 12 years.
The Union Council of Ministers has 30 Cabinet ministers apart from the Prime Minister, along with five Ministers of State (Independent Charge) and 36 Ministers of State.
