Celebrating his 66th birthday on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began the day by meeting his mother Hiraba and other family members in Gandhinagar.
Modi sought his mother&’s blessings on the occasion and the two were seen engaged in an animated conversation at the residence of PM&’s younger brother, Pankaj Modi with whom his mother lives.
"Mother’s love and blessings are the basic essence of life," Modi tweeted in Hindi along with two pictures of him and his mother.
He thanked President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Hamid Ansari for their wishes.
"I thank Honourable Rashtrapati ji for his kind birthday greetings," he tweeted. "My gratitude to Vice President Hamid Ansari for his wishes," Modi said in another tweet.
The prime minister is scheduled to spend the entire day in Gujarat making this his third visit in recent times to the state where Assembly elections are due next year.
He will also be visiting the tribal district of Dahod to inaugurate Kadana-Hafeshwar irrigation project and will also address a rally there.
Later in the afternoon he would go to Navsari where he is scheduled to take part in a function where aid would be distributed to the differently-abled persons.
BJP is facing a challenge in Gujarat ahead of next year’s polls in the aftermath of Patel quota agitation and the protests of Dalit community after the Una atrocity incident.
Last month Modi visited his home state twice — to condole the death of Sawminarayan sect’s leader Pramukhswami Maharaj and later to inaugurate an irrigation scheme in Saruashtra region.
