On the 67th birthday of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday prayed for the “dynamic” leader’s “good health” and “long life”.

In a tweet, Modi said: “Birthday wishes to my friend and Bihar’s dynamic CM Shri @NitishKumar Ji. He has always served our nation with great diligence and his role in transforming Bihar is particularly noteworthy.”

“I pray for Nitish Ji’s long life and good health,” he said.

Nitish Kumar, the Janata Dal-United JD (U) leader, was born on March 1, 1951.

He quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) over its decision to project Modi as its prime ministerial candidate ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

After a brief partnership with the Grand Alliance that included the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata  Dal leading to the annihilation of the BJP in Bihar assembly polls, Nitish returned to the NDA fold in 2017.

Relations between the two top leaders significantly improved after Nitish broke away from the Grand Alliance following corruption allegations against former deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD.

Kumar was also the only non-NDA chief minister to support demonetisation.
