Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a Kadamb sapling, gifted to him by King Charles III of the United Kingdom on the occasion of his 75th birthday, at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, on Friday.

“This morning, planted a Kadamb sapling at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, which was gifted by His Majesty King Charles III. He is very passionate about the environment and sustainability, a topic which features in our discussions too,” PM Modi said in a post on handle X.

The gift of the Kadamb sapling reflects the strong partnership between India and the UK, particularly in the areas of climate action and clean energy cooperation. King Charles III was inspired by PM Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, which encourages people to plant trees in honor of their mothers, blending respect for motherhood with environmental conservation.

The Kadamb tree symbolizes the enduring friendship between India and the UK and stands as a reminder of the shared responsibility between the two countries towards environmental sustainability and nurturing life. This act reflects the sentiment of PM Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, dedicating a tree to the love and care of the mother, who sustains all life.

During his visit to the UK in July, PM Modi gifted King Charles III a ‘Sonoma’ tree as part of the same initiative. This mutual exchange highlights the strong partnership between the two nations, especially in the areas of climate action and clean energy cooperation, as set out in the UK-India Vision 2035.
