Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday honoured the freedom fighters who liberated Goa from Portuguese rule.

“Goa Liberation Day reminds us of a defining chapter in our national journey. We recall the indomitable spirit of those who refused to accept injustice and fought for freedom with courage and conviction,” PM Modi said in a post on handle X.

He said the sacrifices of the freedom fighters inspire the nation as it works towards Goa’s progress.

Goa was liberated on December 19, 1961, ending 451 years of foreign rule. The day is a state holiday, celebrating the state’s history and heritage.
