Amid differences with China over a host of issues, Prime Minister Narendra Modion Friday met President Xi Jinping at Astana in Kazakhstan ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.

“PM Narendra Modi meets President of China Xi Jinping on margins of SCO Summit in Astana,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Gopal Baglay tweeted with pictures of both the leaders.

After participating in the summit on Friday, Modi will also attend the World Exposition, before returning to India.

The meeting comes amid growing differences between the two countries over a host of issues, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and India's Nuclear Suppliers Group membership bid.

The meeting is the first after India boycotted the high-profile Belt and Road Forum held in Beijing last month in which leaders of 29 countries took part.
