Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday met with Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev at World Food India 2025 and discussed ways to strengthen India-Russia cooperation in agriculture, fertilizers, and food processing.
The meeting highlights the growing partnership between the two nations, particularly in the context of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and its impact on global food security.
“Happy to meet Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev at the World Food India 2025. We discussed ways to strengthen our win-win cooperation in agriculture, fertilizers and food processing,” the prime minister said in a post on handle X.
On the occasion, the PM conveyed his warm greetings to President Putin and said he looked forward to welcoming him to India for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.
During their meeting, Modi and Patrushev explored opportunities to further strengthen their win-win cooperation in key sectors. This cooperation is crucial, given the current global landscape, where food security has become a pressing concern. India’s agriculture sector, in particular, stands to benefit from this partnership, with Russia being a significant player in the global fertilizer market.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has disrupted global food supplies and led to increased prices. India’s partnership with Russia can help mitigate these challenges by ensuring a stable supply of fertilizers and promoting cooperation in food processing.
Strengthening cooperation in agriculture can help India improve its crop yields and ensure food security.
Russia’s expertise in fertilizers can help India meet its domestic demand and promote sustainable agriculture practices. Cooperation in food processing can help India reduce post-harvest losses and promote value-added products.
The meeting between PM Modi and Dmitry Patrushev underscores the importance of India-Russia cooperation in addressing global food security challenges and promoting sustainable agriculture practices.
