PM Modi hails To Lam’s election, signals continued momentum in India-Vietnam ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated To Lam on his election as President of Vietnam, expressing confidence that bilateral ties will continue to deepen under his leadership.

In a post on X, Modi underscored the enduring nature of the relationship between the two countries and conveyed optimism about its future trajectory. “Heartiest congratulations to Mr. To Lam on his election as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. I am confident that under his leadership, the time-tested friendship between our two countries will continue to grow from strength to strength,” he wrote.

Reaffirming India’s commitment to closer engagement, the Prime Minister added, “I look forward to working closely together to further deepen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the progress and prosperity of our people and the region.”

India and Vietnam share a longstanding partnership built on historical linkages, cultural exchanges, and expanding cooperation in key sectors. In recent years, ties have grown significantly across defense, trade, maritime security, and regional stability, particularly under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework established in 2016.

The two nations have also worked closely in regional forums to promote peace, stability, and development in the Indo-Pacific. Modi’s message highlights New Delhi’s continued focus on strengthening engagement with Southeast Asia and reinforcing strategic ties with partners such as Vietnam.
