Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday greeted the nation on the occasion of Dhanteras — the festival of wealth.
“धनतेरस की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएं। Dhanteras greetings to everyone. May this day bring happiness, good health and prosperity in everyone’s lives,” Modi tweeted.
One of the most important religious festival of Hindus, Dhanteras, also known as Dhanatrayodashi, is observed all over India and Nepal.
It also marks the beginning of the five-day Tihar festival in some North-eastern states in India and Nepal.
The festival falls on the thirteenth lunar day of Kartik month of Saka calendar (October-November), marking the first day of of the Diwali celebrations.
Considered auspicious for business, people also indulge in buying precious metals on Dhanteras.
