Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed deep concern over the deteriorating health of former Bangaldeshi premier Begum Khaleda Zia’s health, extending all possible support to her.

Zia, who is the chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was admitted to a private hospital on November 23 following a chest infection.

“Deeply concerned to learn about the health of Begum Khaleda Zia, who has contributed to Bangladesh’s public life for many years. Our sincere prayers and best wishes for her speedy recovery. India stands ready to extend all possible support, in whatever way we can,” Modi wrote on X.

According to local media reports, Zia’s health condition is said to be critical with BNP vice-chairman Advocate Ahmed Aazam Khan telling media persons that there is nothing more to do except prayers.

“She is in a very critical condition. There is nothing more to do except seek prayers from the whole nation,” he told reporters.

According to local media reports, Khaleda Zia has been declared a VIP under Section 2(a) of the Special Security Force Act, 2021, effective immediately.

In the latest update, her party said that specialist doctors are providing her round-the-clock care at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.

“From what we have been informed, her treatment is ongoing—that is the update. Please pray that Allah restores her to good health,” BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told reporters.
