Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for exposing the Congress party before the nation in the Lok Sabha.

During a public meeting in Odisha’s Baripada on Saturday, the PM lashed out at the Congress party and its chief Rahul Gandhi, who had tried to corner Sitharaman over the Dassault Rafale deal during a discussion in the lower house of Parliament on Friday.

“I congratulate Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. She exposed the intentions of those who fool the nation, the politics of those who play with the security of India, and the childishness of those who use the sacred Parliament for their entertainment,” said the PM.

Accusing the Congress party for weakening the armed forces during their reign from 2004 to 2014, the PM said that his party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is helping the forces out of the conspiracy nets woven by the grand old party.

“The Congress is tensed because their secrets are coming out,” the PM said while pointing at AgustaWestland scam middleman Christian Michel.

“Samajh nahi aata ki Congress ne sarkar chalayi hai ya apne Michel mama ka darbaar chalaya hai. Mai aaj spasht kar dena chahta hu, desh ke bajaay bichauliyo ke hiton ki raksha mein jis-jis ki bhumika rahi hai, unka poora hisaab jaanch agency karengi, desh ki janta karegi (I do not understand whether the Congress ran a government or their Michel uncle ran his durbar. I want to make it clear that whosoever protected the middlemen instead of the nation will be probed by investigative agencies and the people of this country),” he said.

The PM also slammed the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh for stopping the singing of Vande Mataram in government offices.

Without naming Rahul Gandhi, the PM said that the leader of the country’s oldest political party asks why Modi begins his speeches with ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’.

In Odisha for a second time in less than a fortnight, the PM launched a series of projects worth more than Rs 4,500 crore.

He had unveiled some projects in Bhubaneswar and addressed a BJP rally near the historic Khurda town on 24 December.

Describing the projects as a New Year gift to the people of Odisha, the PM expressed hope that 2019 will steer the state on a path of rapid development.

The projects inaugurated by Modi are related to road highways and transport, petroleum and natural gas, railways, culture, tourism and passport services.

Some key projects include four-laning of three major national highways in Odisha, laying of a section of a key LPG pipeline and doubling of an important railway line.

The prime minister also flagged off a new passenger train on a route, unveiled multi-modal logistics hub in Balasore as well as a project for restoration and conservation of historical site of Haripurgarh.

Modi also inaugurated passport sewa kendras at post offices in Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jajpur, Aska, Keonjhar and Dhenkanal through video conferencing.
