Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired a high-powered Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting to review the measures taken by various ministries and departments and discussed further initiatives to be taken in the context of the ongoing West Asia conflict.
During the CCS meeting, second since the conflict in the Middle East began on February 28, Cabinet Secretary briefed about the action taken to ensure supply of petroleum products, particularly LNG/LPG, and sufficient power availability.
Further, interventions proposed to be taken for emerging challenges in various other sectors such as agriculture, civil aviation, shipping and logistics were also discussed.
Prime Minister Modi assessed the availability of critical needs for the common man, fertilisers for farmers and steps being taken to ensure its availability in the Kharif and Rabi seasons.
PM Modi said that all efforts must be made to safeguard the citizens from the impact of this conflict.
The Prime Minister also emphasised smooth flow of authentic information to the public to prevent misinformation and rumour mongering.
He further directed all concerned departments to take all possible measures to ameliorate the problems of citizens and sectors affected by the ongoing global situation.
The meeting was attended by senior ministers, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chemical and Fertilizers Minister J P Nadda, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Housing and Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi, and Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu also attended the meeting.
National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, the prime minister’s principal secretaries P K Mishra and Shaktikanta Das, and Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan were also present during.
Earlier last week, Prime Minister Modi had chaired the CCS meeting to review the situation, the ongoing and proposed mitigating measures in the context of the West Asia Conflict.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Cabinet Secretary gave a detailed presentation on the global situation and the mitigating measures taken so far and being planned by all concerned Ministries and Departments of the Government of India.
The expected impact and measures taken to address it across sectors like agriculture, fertilisers, food security, petroleum, power, MSMEs, exporters, shipping, trade, finance, supply chains and all affected sectors were discussed.
The overall macro-economic scenario in the country and further measures to be taken were also discussed.
