West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon after the latter’s rally in New Jalpaiguri in which he called the grand alliance a ‘mahamilavat’ (grand adulteration).

“He (PM Modi) is afraid because we are working together. I was never scared; I have always fought my way out. I have always respected ‘Ma-Maati-Maanush’. It is a misfortune that he has become the PM because of the power of money,” Mamata alleged in her sharp attack on the Prime Minister at an event in Kolkata.

Taking a jibe at the PM over the Rafale deal, Banerjee said, “During the election, he (PM) becomes ‘Chaiwalla’ after the election he becomes ‘Rafale walla’.”

“He (PM) doesn’t know India. He reached here only after Godhra & other conflicts. He is a master of Rafale. He is a master of demonetisation… He is a master of corruption. He is matter of arrogance,” she was quoted as saying by ANI.

In her characteristic style, the Trinamool Congress chief asked why “from RBI to CBI, everybody saying bye-bye to him (PM)”.

The fiery politician from West Bengal even issued a warning to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), “If you take ‘panga’ with us, I will become ‘changa’.”

Earlier today, the PM launched a frontal attack on the Bengal government and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during a rally at New Jalpaiguri.

The PM said that it is for the first time in the history of the country that a Chief Minister has taken a stand with those who looted the poor people.

“Today West Bengal has a Chief Minister who is standing with the people who looted the hard-earned money of the poor in the state,” Modi said referring to the CM’s dramatic sit-in against Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) attempt at questioning Kolkata Police Commissioner in connection with ponzi scam cases.

“Didi Dilli jaane ke liye pareshaan hai aur Bengal gareeb aur madhyam varg ko syndicate ke gathbandhan se lutne ke liye chhod diya hai, (In her anxiousness to come to power in the Centre, Didi has left the poor and middle-class in Bengal at the mercy of the syndicate.)” the PM added.

The PM also attacked the Bengal government for its repeated refusal to allow BJP leaders to hold rallies in the state.

Escalating her confrontation with the Centre on Friday, Mamata Banerjee said she would bestow the highest state award on the five senior West Bengal police officers if they were stripped of their medals by the Centre for attending her recent sit-in.

The Chief Minister’s assertion came amid continued face-off between the Centre and the state after a CBI team made a failed attempt to question Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam in which lakhs of investors were duped of their hard earned money with the promise of abnormally high returns.

Reports say that the Union Home Ministry could strip the five officers, including ADG (Security) Vineet Kumar Goyal, ADG (Law and Order) Anuj Sharma, Commissioner of Police (Bidhan Nagar) Gyanwant Singh and Additional Commissioner of Kolkata Police Supratim Sarkar, of their awards for meritorious service and stop their empanelment that would block their promotion.

“I will give these five senior officials the highest state honour ‘Bangabibhusan’ if the Centre takes back their medals. Also, I will send a strongly-worded letter, if they send me one,” Banerjee said on the sidelines of Bengal Global Business Summit, strongly refuting the Centre’s charge that the officials had participated in the dharna.
