PM Modi arrives in Davos; to deliver opening address on 23 January

On Monday, 22 January, Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the first Indian PM in 20 years to arrive in Davos to attend the World Economic Forum.

He will be delivering the opening address on 23 January at the plenary session of the summit underlining this year’s theme ‘Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World’.

The PM arrived in Zurich, Switzerland, earlier today from where he left for Davos which is approximately 150 kilometres away near the Swiss border with Austria.

India is projecting a business- and investment-friendly image at Davos under the theme ‘India Means Business’.

The PM will be interacting with 120 members of the International Business Council – a part of the WEF. He will also interact with CEOs of Indian companies.

At Davos the PM will also meet Swiss President Alain Berset.

In his departure statement on Sunday, the prime minister had said that India’s engagement with the outside world in the recent years has become “truly and effectively multi- dimensional covering the political, economic, people to people, security and other spheres”.

“At Davos, I look forward to sharing my vision for India’s future engagement with the international community,” he had said.

Around 3000 leaders from politics, finance, business and science are expected to attend the WEF. Some of the biggest names include US President Donald Trump, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron, UK PM Theresa May, Member of China’s Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee Liu He, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, CERN Director-General Fabiola Gianotti, and founder and chairperson of Mann Deshi Foundation Chetna Sinha.
