PM Modi announces Rs 1500 crore relief package for flood-hit Himachal Pradesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced a financial assistance package of Rs 1500 crore for Himachal Pradesh, which has been severely affected by recent floods and landslides, a release from his office said.

The package includes advance release of the second installment of SDRF, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, sanctions under PM Awas Yojana, relief to affected families under PMNRF, geotagging of damaged houses to facilitate accurate damage assessment and faster delivery of aid, and other measures to support affected families and farmers.

The Prime Minister made the announcement after he visited Himachal Pradesh and reviewed the flood situation and assessed the damage caused by cloudbursts, rains, flash floods and landslides. During his visit, PM Modi conducted an aerial survey of affected areas, including Chamba, Bharmour, Kangra, and other regions in Himachal Pradesh.

Recognizing the critical need to support the agricultural community, additional assistance will be provided specifically targeted at
farmers who currently lack power connections.

The government will also take steps to ensure uninterrupted education and improve water management:

Schools will be able to report and geotag damages, enabling timely assistance under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Recharge structures for water harvesting will be constructed to improve groundwater levels and support better water management.

During his visit, PM Modi met with the families affected by the calamity and expressed his condolences and deep sorrow to the family members of those who have lost their lives. He stated that the Union Government will work closely with the State Government to extend all possible assistance.

PM Modi also appreciated the efforts of personnel from NDRF, SDRF, Army, State administration, and other service-oriented organizations for their prompt response and relief efforts.

The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured in the floods and natural calamity. He assured that the Central Government will make all efforts to address the situation and provide necessary assistance to the affected families.
