Students in Himachal Pradesh were urged to plant more trees as Van Mahotsav was celebrated at the Central Tibetan School in Shimla on Saturday.
"Trees would not only help in keeping the environment clean and green but would be of great use to future generation as well," said Purnima Chauhan, Secretary, Language, Art & Culture and Administrative Reform, while addressing the function.
Urging the students to plant at least one tree on their birthdays, Chauhan planted a sapling of Chinar tree on the occasion and said, "It was our prime responsibility to plant and nourish the trees".
Around 120 plants of various species were also planted by the principal, staff and students of the school.
The celebration was jointly organised by the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department and the Himachal Pradesh United Nation&’s Association.
Himachal Pradesh United Nation&’s Association president CP Mahajan welcomed the chief guest and spoke about the activities of the organisation. Central Tibetan School, Principal, Vinod Kumar Singh thanked the chief guest.
