Public awareness about breast cancer was disseminated among people in the Uttar Pradesh Capital on Sunday under the Pink Wave Campaign.

The event was organised by the Association of 41 Clubs of India Area 9 in collaboration with the SGPGI Breast Health Programme. The campaign aimed to raise awareness among women about early breast cancer symptoms and timely treatment.

The event began with a walkathon at 7 a.m. from the Lucknow Golf Club. Principal Secretary (Industries) Alok Kumar and Principal Secretary (Planning) Alok Kumar III flagged off the walkathon. Over 300 participants took part in the 3 km-long walkathon.

Following the walkathon, a vintage car rally was organized at 8 a.m. The rally passed through Lohia Path and ended at the Golf Driving Range. During this event, expert doctors from the SGPGI Breast Health Programme raised awareness about breast cancer. Dr Gaurav Agarwal said that women over the age of 40 should have their breasts examined by a doctor every year. Any symptoms, such as a painless lump, should not be ignored.

He explained that with early detection and treatment, most breast cancer patients can recover completely.

A special awareness camp was also organised for golf caddies and their families. Doctors provided detailed information about early breast cancer screening and its importance. The “Pink Wave” campaign also spread the message that early detection of breast cancer can be life-saving.
