BJP Kerala President Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Wednesday that the people of Kerala are facing unprecedented price rise, which is making their life in distress.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar noted that while India’s retail inflation rate has come down to two per cent, Kerala has the highest inflation rate in the country with 6.7%. This situation has been continuing for the last few months.
The Kerala BJP chief said while most states in the country, including the southern states, have effectively curbed inflation, Kerala’s consumer price index-based inflation rate reached an alarming proportion in June. This is extremely worrying.
“Kerala’s inflation is above the Reserve Bank’s national tolerance limit of 6 percent. This shows the complete failure of the Left government in market intervention,” he pointed out.
“The constant refrain that this is because Kerala is a consumer state is irrelevant. Punjab, the largest agricultural production center, is also behind Kerala in terms of inflation. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, which have intervened in the market economy and brought inflation below zero, and Odisha, which has reduced it to 0.5 per cent, should also be taken as an example. It should also be remembered that the average inflation rate of various states is 2.1%,” he said.
The inflation rate at the national level came down only after prices, including those of vegetables, were controlled. However, despite the price of essential commodities such as coconut oil, coconuts and vegetables having doubled, the government is continuing its policy of non-interference in the market, he said.
“The ten years of the Pinarayi Vijayan government are coming to an end, having harmed Malayalis in all sectors. The huge increase in the cost of living has devastated families in Kerala financially. The BJP is continuing its efforts to bring about change to bring financial security to the people, towards the goal of a developed Kerala. Only by removing Pinarayi Vijayan from power will the crisis in all sectors of Kerala end,” said Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
