The death of a 21-year-old former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) municipal election candidate in Gujarat’s Rajkot has triggered a police investigation after her family accused her live-in partner and his relatives of prolonged mental and physical harassment.
The case has also gained national attention after BJP leader Tajinder Bagga shared details of the incident on X, referring to the woman’s final message to her father and repeating the allegations made by her family. The claims in his post have not been independently verified and are now part of an ongoing police investigation.
Police identified the deceased as Nandini Anandbhai Bosamiya, a resident of Jetpur’s Navagadh who had been living in a rented accommodation on Gondal Road in Rajkot. Officials said she died by suicide after allegedly hanging herself. Her body has been sent for a forensic post-mortem examination, while investigators have begun recording statements and collecting evidence.
Family alleges sustained harassment
According to Nandini’s father, she had been facing continuous mental and physical harassment from her live-in partner, Aslam, and his family. He alleged that the sustained abuse drove her to take the extreme step.
Police have recorded his statement and said further legal action will depend on the outcome of the investigation.
Nandini’s sister, Rupal, also levelled several allegations against Aslam. She claimed he had pawned Nandini’s gold and silver jewellery and that the 21-year-old had confided in her about the difficulties she was facing in recent weeks.
Rupal further alleged that Aslam persuaded Nandini to undergo surgery to remove her uterus after telling her he did not want more children because he was already married and had a son. Police have not confirmed these allegations.
Final message before death
The family said Nandini left behind an emotional message before her death.
According to them, she wrote, “Papa, main zindagi ki jung haar gayi hoon” (“Papa, I have lost the battle of life.”)
Her sister also claimed that Nandini had been planning to leave the relationship, find a job and begin living independently. The family alleges she was unable to do so because of severe mental distress.
Relationship had earlier sparked police case
Family members said Nandini had left her home on October 27, 2025, to live with Aslam in Rajkot.
They alleged that the relationship had been opposed by both families because Aslam was already married and had a child.
According to the family, an attack was allegedly carried out on Nandini around five months ago by Aslam’s wife and some of his relatives in Junagadh. They said a complaint in connection with that incident had been registered at the Junagadh C-Division Police Station.
Following the incident, the couple allegedly shifted to a rented house in Rajkot.
Contested municipal election on AAP ticket
Nandini had contested the 2025 Jetpur-Navagadh municipal election on an AAP ticket but was unsuccessful. Her father, Anandbhai Bosamiya, is also associated with the party as a worker.
Police said the investigation into the circumstances leading to her death is underway.
Tajinder Bagga’s post brings case into spotlight
The incident received wider public attention after BJP leader Tajinder Bagga posted about it on X.
In his post, Bagga described Nandini as a young AAP leader who had contested municipal elections in 2025. He alleged that her family had tried to persuade her to leave the relationship and repeated the family’s accusations that she had faced mental and physical harassment, that her jewellery had been pawned, and that she had allegedly been coerced into undergoing surgery.
