Panama’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Javier Eduardo Martinez-Acha Vasquez, arrived in New Delhi on Sunday for a five-day official visit aimed at strengthening the growing partnership between India and Panama. The visit, which will continue until July 23, is expected to deepen cooperation in trade, commerce, maritime affairs, connectivity and diplomacy.
The visiting Foreign Minister received a warm welcome on his arrival in the national capital. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal greeted him through a post on X.
He said India and Panama share a close partnership built on common values, mutual interests and goodwill. The message underlined the importance both nations place on their long-standing relationship.
Packed schedule of high-level meetings
During his stay, Martinez-Acha will meet several senior Indian leaders to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation.
On Monday, he is scheduled to hold talks with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal at the New Parliament Building. The discussions are expected to focus on increasing bilateral trade, promoting investment and expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.
Later the same day, the Panamanian Foreign Minister will participate in delegation-level talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at Hyderabad House.
Focus on maritime and connectivity cooperation
On Tuesday, Martinez-Acha will continue with official engagements in New Delhi.
On Wednesday, he will meet Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal at Transport Bhavan. Maritime cooperation will be a major topic during these discussions.
The two sides are expected to exchange views on improving logistics, strengthening port development, increasing maritime cooperation and enhancing connectivity between India and Panama. These sectors have become increasingly important as both countries seek to expand global trade links.
The Panamanian Foreign Minister is scheduled to complete his visit and leave India on Thursday.
