A local court here on Friday remanded into four-day police custody a suspected spy who was passing to Pakistan secret tip offs about Operation Sindoor and other defence activities in areas along the Indo-Pak border in Jaisalmer.

Haneef, 47, was brought to Jaipur on Thursday after being nabbed from Jaisalmer district. He was arrested under the Official Secrets Act 1923 by the CID-Intelligence sleuths, an Intelligence spokesman said.

Officials of various central, state and military agencies will grill Haneef further.
This is the fourth instance of arrest of a Pakistani agent from the Jaisalmer border this year.

In questioning so far, it has been revealed that Haneef had been indulging in passing on secret defence- and military-related information to Pakistani agencies for quite some time, the spokesman said, adding he used to share information pertaining to army movements or other vital clues about defence installations to his handlers in Pakistan through social media platforms.

He was also in touch with Pakistan agencies and his handlers during Operation Sindoor and shared critical information with them, the spokesman added.

A native of Bahla village in the vicinity of the international border, the suspect presently lives in Basanpeer Juni Sadar village of Mohangarh (Jaisalmer) and is familiarised well with the locations and places in this border sector.
