After a claim regarding the identities and background of the Pahalgam attackers went viral on multiple social media platforms, the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff called the same fake. Denying the release of any such documents, the HQIDS stated that no such documents have been issued.

Earlier, during the Parliament’s Monsoon session, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had revealed the identities of the three terrorists who were killed during the Operation Mahadev undertaken by the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. It was revealed that three terrorists belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a terror outfit, and were involved in the Pahalgam attack in April.

“In the Operation Mahadev, Suleman alias Faizal, Afghan and Jibran, these three terrorists were killed in a joint operation of the Indian Army, CRPF and J&K Police. Suleman was an A-grade commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Afghan and Jibran were also A-grade terrorists. All three terrorists who killed our citizens in the Baisaran valley have been eliminated,” Shah had said in his speech in the Lok Sabha.

Shah had also added that arrests were also made of those who harbored the terrorists and provided them with food, by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Multiple posts on X have gone viral carrying the images of documents and ID cards, claiming them to be that of the killed terrorists.

“Indian agencies confirm 3 Pakistani LeT commanders planned the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam massacre. Forensic, DNA and state documents prove their identities, no locals among attackers,” read one post.

In a post on X, HQIDS wrote, “Social media accounts are spreading a report on the identities and background of the Pahalgam attackers. No authorised media handle of the Armed Forces has prepared or issued any such document. No remarks of this nature have been made by the Armed Forces Public Relations Offices/nominated spokespersons. Stay Alert! Stay Informed!”
