Owaisi opposes India-Pakistan Asia Cup match in Lok Sabha: ‘My conscience doesn’t allow me to watch’

All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who was part of the seven-member multi-party Operation Sindoor delegation, on Monday objected to the upcoming India-Pakistan Asia Cup cricket match, questioning how the game could proceed when the government itself says that “water and blood can’t flow together.”

“Does your conscience allow you to ask the families of those killed in Baisaran to watch India’s cricket match with Pakistan,” Owaisi asked during the special 16-hour debate on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha.

Referring to India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the AIMIM leader said, “We are stopping 80% of Pakistan’s water, declaring that water and blood will not flow together. And yet, we are going to play a cricket match? My conscience does not allow me to watch that match.”

He further added, “Does this government have the courage to call the families of the 25 people who died and say, ‘We have taken revenge in Operation Sindoor, now you can watch the match with Pakistan’? It is a matter of deep regret.”

Owaisi also questioned the government over the security lapse in Pahalgam, where terrorists gunned down 26 innocent civilians, mostly tourists, in April this year.

“Who was responsible for Pahalgam? We have 7.5 lakh army and central paramilitary personnel. How did four terrorists infiltrate and kill our citizens? Who will be held accountable,” he asked.
