With hearings completed for 85.80 per cent of over 30 million voters during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh, a total of 44,952 voters’ names have been removed from the list so far.
In most of these cases, voters initiated the removal themselves or the deletions occurred due to death or duplication.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa shared this information during a press conference here on Saturday.
He said that in 37,132 cases, voters themselves applied for removal, while in the remaining cases names were deleted due to migration or through Form-7.
He added that of the total deletions, 27,118 were due to migration, 10,014 through self-deletion, and 7,620 through Form-7.
According to election officials, approximately 86 percent of the claims and objections received so far have been heard. Applicants who submitted valid documents have been added to the voter list.
During the claims and objections process, which began on January 6, a total of 70.69 lakh applications have been received so far. These include 34.96 lakh applications from men, 35.72 lakh from women, and 296 from other genders.
The hearing of claims and objections will continue until March 27.
Officials said that a total of 86.69 lakh Form-6 applications for adding new names to the voter list have been received since October 27, including 43.06 lakh from men and around 43 lakh from women.
Meanwhile, 3.18 lakh applications for Form-7 (removal of names) have been received, including 1.58 lakh from men and 1.10 lakh from women.
During the same period, 22.55 lakh applications for Form-8 (correction/amendment) were received, of which 13.38 lakh were from men. Additionally, 2,624 Form-6A applications were received from NRI voters, of which 2,199 were from men.
Election officials said that hearings are continuing on the basis of claims and objections, and the names of eligible applicants are being added to the voter list as per the rules.
