As part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, the streets of Lucknow witnessed a unique display of patriotism on Thursday.
More than 600 differently-abled persons participated in a special ‘Tiranga Yatra’ organised under the aegis of the Uttar Pradesh Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, filling the city with the colours of the national flag.
The rally commenced at Sanchet Rajkiya Mook Badhir Vidyalaya (Government School for the Deaf), Mohan Road and passed through the Integrated Regional Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Disability Empowerment Centre before returning to the school.
Uttar Pradesh Minister of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and Backward Class Welfare (Independent Charge) Narendra Kashyap flagged off the rally.
“This yatra is not just an event, but a living testimony of patriotism,” said Minister Kashyap, adding that persons with disabilities are a source of inspiration and their spirit and self-confidence serve as a guiding light for every citizen.
Principal Secretary Subhash Sharma described the event as an extraordinary example of social harmony and inclusive development, reaffirming the department’s commitment to integrating every differently-abled person into the mainstream of the nation.
Participants from various schools and institutions showcased their talent and enthusiasm, spreading the message of patriotism. Students of St. Francis School for the Hearing Impaired led the rally with a band and drums, while students from Rajkiya Sanket Vidyalaya, Sparsh School for the Visually Impaired, Mamta Government School, and Prayas Vidyalaya were dressed in the colours of the tricolour. Participants using wheelchairs and tricycles also joined the yatra with great zeal.
The district administration, police force, and Health Department extended special support to ensure the programme’s success. City Magistrate G.C. Gupta was present as Duty Magistrate, while Para Police Station officials managed traffic and security arrangements.
State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Himanshu Shekhar Jha, Joint Director Amit Kumar Singh, and other departmental officers and staff were also present on the occasion
