Opposition targets Fadnavis after minor’s rape and murder

Opposition leaders targeted Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday after the rape and murder of a four-year-old girl in Bhor taluka of Pune district.

Sharad Pawar-led NCP’s National Working President and Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule tweeted on X and demanded the strictest punishment for the culprit.

“A four-year-old girl was raped and murdered by a man in Nasarapur, Bhor taluka in Pune. This incident is very shocking, heartbreaking and a disgrace to humanity. We are of the view that the accused should be given the strictest punishment. I request the Chief Minister to please give an order to the Home Department to investigate this crime expeditiously. We also demand that this case be tried on a fast track and the culprit should be given strict punishment. My heartfelt tributes to the girl who died in this incident,” Sule stated.

Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena leader Sushma Andhare said, “There are no words to condemn the inhuman, extremely monstrous act of torturing and brutally murdering a four-year-old girl in Pune’s Bhor area. Where human words are silenced, where there is no humanity left, we have such a situation. What should we expect from the state’s Home Minister (Fadnavis)? Is there really anything to expect?”

Targeting Fadnavis, Andhare said, “While everyone is busy beating their own drum, advertising themselves and showing how powerful they are, it has become for the common man to live here. Even a four-year-old baby girl is not safe. The resignation of the Home Minister is not being asked at all because we know that the Home Minister (Fadnavis) does not care about these things. He has nothing to do with them. No matter what happens, the Home Minister (Fadnavis) will never resign,” Sushma Andhare said.

“He will stay away and make big speeches, as well as claim that he will get to the root of the matter. Beyond that, the Home Minister will not do much. Only the one who suffered will feel the pain. We should become aware that we live in an insecure state,” Sushma Andhare said, targeting Fadnavis.

Meanwhile, Sharad Pawar-led NCP MLA Rohit Pawar met the victim’s family after which he demanded the implementation of the Shakti Act in Maharashtra, while interacting with media persons at a press conference on Saturday.

“The public outcry is understandable. If such an incident has happened, people are definitely bound to get angry. Supriya Sule discussed the matter with the Superintendent of Police yesterday and I spoke to the SP today. The criminal responsible for this act was caught in similar incidents twice, but he managed to get out on bail. How did he dare to commit a third incident? If he gets out on bail again tomorrow, of what use will be the law? This is the feeling of the people here,” Rohit Pawar said.

“There is a Supreme Court verdict delivered in 1983, in which the government had demanded that the criminal should be given capital punishment or the death penalty. The criminal involved in this incident should get the death penalty. Another demand of the people is that the girl’s mother should get financial assistance from the government. The people here have also demanded that the woman should be given a government job,” Rohit Pawar said.

“I understand that the Chief Minister has accepted the people’s demand for a fast track court. The Superintendent of Police said that the chargesheet will be filed within 15 days and the accused will be punished. In this state, on April 2026, a 16-year-old minor girl was raped in Beed. The Badlapur incident took place in January 2026. In April 2026, a ten-year-old girl was sexually abused in Baramati,” Rohit Pawar said.

“Everday, 24 such atrocities happen in this state. That is, one incident happens in the state every hour. Every year, crimes of atrocities against 50,000 women happen in Maharashtra. There is no law and order in Maharashtra. It seems criminals here no longer fear the law,” Rohit Pawar said.
