Opposition parties in Bihar have expressed serious objection and concern over the reduction in security arrangements for the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, state Congress President Rajesh Ram, and Congress Legislative Council leader Dr Madan Mohan Jha. They have alleged that the decision reflects vindictiveness and a conspiracy to suppress the voice of the opposition in a democracy.
According to the revised security arrangements, newly elected BJP National President Nitin Nabin, Bihar BJP President Sanjay Saraogi, and JD(U) leader Lalan Singh have been provided Z-category security. Meanwhile, Tejashwi Yadav’s security cover has been downgraded to the Y+ category. In addition, the security cover of Congress leaders Dr Madan Mohan Jha and Rajesh Ram has been completely withdrawn.
RJD Bihar spokesperson Ejaz Ahmad alleged that the NDA government’s decision is part of a deliberate attempt to silence the opposition. He claimed that the move reflects the government’s nervousness ahead of the upcoming Budget session, where the ruling alliance will face the Opposition for the first time after the 2025 Assembly elections.
Bihar Congress chief spokesperson Rajesh Rathore termed the decision as “driven by malice.”
He said, “While many senior leaders of the BJP and JD(U) have been provided Z-category security, the government is deliberately trying to put our leaders in danger.”
Rathore alleged that the NDA government has consistently adopted wrong policies against the Congress party in the state and wants to create political fear by making Opposition leaders insecure.
“At a time when there is an atmosphere of insecurity in the state, from ordinary citizens to prominent individuals, due to the reign of criminals, tampering with the security of our leaders is a symbol of the NDA government’s ill intent and political vendetta. We oppose such orders and demand that the government immediately restore the Y-category security arrangements,” he added.
