In a major tragedy in the bustling commercial area of Kaiserbagh here in Uttar Pradesh’s capital, a nearly 150-year-old Peepal tree suddenly collapsed on the nearby buildings and shops in the Machhli Mandi (Fish Market) area killing one person while leaving more than five others injured.

The deceased has been identified as Ramu Dada, a fish vendor who hails from Bengal.

Rescue operations began soon after the incident with teams from the Municipal Corporation, police, and local administration rushing to the spot. Fire Department personnel worked tirelessly to cut the heavy branches and retrieve those trapped underneath. The injured have been admitted to Balrampur and Civil Hospitals, while King George’s Medical University (KGMU) has also been put on alert to handle any emergency cases.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak visited the site shortly after the accident, assuring the victims of proper medical care and instructing officials to take immediate action.

Commissioner Roshan Jacob and other senior officers were also present at the scene to oversee the rescue efforts.

According to eyewitnesses, the tree had weakened due to recent rainfall, which may have caused the collapse. The incident also damaged nearby houses and temporary stalls.
