An EVM in Shahpur polling booth in Poonch Lok Sabha constituency in Jammu-Kashmir was replaced after it emerged that the button next to the Congress party symbol was not working.
The issue was also raised by National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, whose party is contesting the Lok Sabha elections 2019 from the state in alliance with the grand old party.
“There was an issue with Congress button in Shahpur. Our staff replaced the machine,” an officer from the Poonch District Election Commission in Jammu-Kashmir was quoted as saying by ANI.
He, however, added that a similar problem with the BJP button was witnessed at another polling booth.
“At another polling station BJP button wasn’t working. We changed that also,” he added.
Earlier today, Abdullah raised the concern with a tweet containing a news report of voters complaining about the delay in the start of polling.
“Congress symbol button not working in Poonch polling stations ||Mangnar,” he tweeted.

The video report showed polling officials trying to explain the delay in start of polling to some agitated voters. A polling official is heard telling the voters that the button next to the Congress symbol is not working and the machine is therefore being replaced.
EVM glitches were also reported from some other constituencies where polling is being held in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019.
Problems with the VVPAT-EVMs were found in Booth No. 127 (Gadchiroli-Chimur constituency), booth No. 147 (Yavatmal-Washim) resulting in long queues of voters in the blistering heat.
