Police in Odisha’s Puri district have removed 97 objectionable social media posts and accounts over the past three days for allegedly circulating morphed and inappropriate content related to Lord Jagannath.
The action was taken as part of a special online monitoring drive after police noticed edited photos, videos, and posts on various social media platforms that could hurt the religious sentiments of devotees.
A dedicated team has been continuously monitoring social media to identify and report objectionable content. The identified posts and accounts were successfully taken down as part of the drive, Puri Superintendent of Police (SP) Prateek Singh said.
Appealing to the public to exercise restraint on social media, Singh urged citizens not to edit, distort, or share inappropriate content related to Lord Jagannath.
People have also been advised to consider the social, cultural, and religious implications before posting any content online.
He further emphasised that Lord Jagannath is revered by millions of devotees worldwide and called upon the public to respect and preserve the state’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
The special monitoring drive will continue, police said, warning that strict action will be taken against those circulating objectionable content.
Citizens have also been urged to immediately report any such posts or accounts to the police for prompt action, the police added.
