An Additional Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge at Paralakhemundi in Odisha’s Gajapati district on Tuesday sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a minor girl after allegedly forcing her to consume a soft drink laced with an intoxicating substance.
The convict, Rajendra Jani, committed the offence on February 10. The court found him guilty under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and sentenced him to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment. It also imposed a fine of ₹50,000, Special Public Prosecutor M Pruthiviaj said.
