Farmers in Odisha will now reap the benefits of crop insurance coverage free of cost for up to five acres under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the Kharif 2026 season, with beneficiaries required to pay only Re 1 per plot towards account validation.
The entire farmer’s premium will be borne by the State Government, while the Centre will provide the applicable subsidy.
The State Cooperation Department has notified the implementation of PMFBY for the Kharif 2026 season, offering comprehensive financial protection against crop losses caused by natural calamities such as drought, dry spells, floods, inundation, cyclones, hailstorms, landslides and lightning.
The notified crops for Kharif 2026 are paddy, maize, groundnut, ragi, cotton, red gram, ginger and turmeric in the designated notified areas. The scheme is open to all eligible farmers, including loanee and non-loanee farmers as well as sharecroppers.
An Aadhaar number or Aadhaar enrolment proof is mandatory for registration. Farmers have been advised to keep their land records, bank account details and crop-related documents ready while applying.
Loanee farmers can enrol through Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), Large Area Multipurpose Cooperative Societies (LAMPCS) or their respective bank branches.
Non-loanee farmers can register through Common Service Centres (CSCs), cooperative and commercial bank branches, insurance intermediaries or approved digital platforms. PACS and LAMPCS officials will assist farmers with the enrolment process.
The last date for enrolment under the scheme is July 31. Farmers cultivating notified crops in the notified areas have been urged to complete their enrollment within the stipulated deadline.
