OBC Mahasabha gheraos Vidhan Sabha demanding 27% reservation

Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha

The OBC Mahasabha staged a Vidhan Sabha gherao here on Monday on the demand of immediate implementation of 27 per cent reservation and end to the hold on 13 per cent reservation in the government jobs in Madhya Pradesh.

A large number of protesters gathered at the Rangmahal Square and raised slogans.

The police erected barricades to prevent the demonstrators from moving towards the State Assembly, which had its first day today of the five-day monsoon session.

Several protesters tried to jump the barricades, and police had to resort to water cannons and mild lathi charge to bring the situation under control.

The police also detained several protesters on the spot.

The OBC Mahasabha has been demanding that members of other backward classes be given 27 percent reservation in government recruitments and promotions. They are also demanding that the current hold on 13 percent reservation be removed, and the OBC quote be increased from the present 14 percent to 27 percent.
