A day after his arrest on rape charge, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Indian National Congress, suspended Udit Pradhan, president of the student wing of the Congress party.
A statement issued by the NSUI read: “In view of recent developments, the NSUI Odisha State President has been suspended with immediate effect, pending investigation.”
The student wing of the Congress reaffirmed its commitment to zero-tolerance policy toward gender-based injustice and its unwavering commitment to accountability and justice.
Pradhan was arrested by the Mancheswar Police on Sunday night after he was accused of rape by a young woman in a complaint she lodged against him with the police.
Meanwhile, the BJP Yuva Morcha lashed out at Congress, accusing it of double standards. The party that targets the BJP-led state government over crimes involving women has now been thoroughly exposed by the sexual escapades of its own leader. “A leader of Congress’s frontal organisation, the president of student Congress, is now behind bars in a rape case. This exposes the moral standard of the Congress,” alleged BJP Yuva Morcha president Abhilash Panda.
