Congress leader Shashi Tharoor MP has reportedly informed the high command that he has no plans to present himself as the Congress’s chief ministerial candidate in the upcoming assembly elections in Kerala.
In a meeting with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi in Delhi a few days ago, Tharoor had reportedly made it clear that he would not be a contender for the chief minister post in Kerala . He informed the leadership of his stance at a time when rumours were circulating that he would be the chief ministerial candidate of the Congress-led UDF.
The party leadership asked Tharoor to become active in Kerala politics ahead of the assembly elections. Tharoor responded positively to this and was actively involved in the party’s brainstorming leadership camp held in Wayanad on January 4 and 5.
He said the media are reporting his statements partially, which is the reason for many controversies, and that other leaders should not react without fully understanding his statement. AICC general secretary KC Venugopal has informed the leaders in Kerala about this and warned them not to provoke Tharoor.
