Petitioner in the Chingrighata Metro Project case, Upamanyu Bhattacharya, on Tuesday hailed the Suvendu Adhikari-led BJP government in West Bengal after the completion of viaduct work at Chingrighata crossing on the EM Bypass, saying that no other government could have done this.
After long delays and court battles, the work on the stalled stretch of the New Garia-Airport metro corridor started soon after the BJP came to power in West Bengal.
“The Kolkata High Court had asked the government to take the necessary measures to ensure that the Orange Line of the Metro is completed. However, the TMC government took the matter to the Supreme Court. The apex court criticised the stance of the government and directed it to complete the work at the earliest,” he stated.
According to Upamanyu Bhattacharya, this exposed the brazenness of the state government and the extent to which it went to stall the Metro project.
He expressed his happiness over the fact that the Suvendu Adhikari government managed to resolve the issue within the first 15 days of coming to power.
“Today, I am very happy that the new government has resolved the issue within fifteen days. No other government would have done this, and certainly not the TMC government. They have a history of not following court orders,” he added.
