The Congress party sounded the bugle for the Bihar Assembly elections in Patna on Wednesday, promising to provide the people of the state with employment, education, healthcare, social justice, and good governance.

Addressing the landmark Extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Patna, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a frontal attack on the BJP, accusing it of orchestrating “vote chori” (vote theft) and promoting communal polarisation.

“The winds of Bihar indicate that a new revolution will arise from here. The 2025 Assembly elections will be a milestone, not just for Bihar, but for the entire country. This will mark the beginning of the end of the Modi government’s corrupt regime,” Kharge declared.

He claimed that India was passing through an extremely challenging and troubling phase, both internationally and domestically. Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kharge said: “The very leaders he calls his ‘friends’ are the ones today putting India into crisis.”

Highlighting the issue of voter list manipulation, he claimed that ”as our voter lists are being officially tampered with, it is vital to hold this Extended CWC meeting in Bihar, the cradle of democracy, to reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding India’s democracy and Constitution”.

Kharge also targeted Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, alleging that governance and administration in the state have been ”on leave for a long time”.

“Loot and murder have become daily occurrences. The crime rate is continuously rising. There is a severe shortage of teachers in schools, and the public healthcare system has completely collapsed,” he alleged.

Earlier, former deputy chief minister of Rajasthan Sachin Pilot said that Bihar’s issues would be given top priority in the meeting.

“Bihar is one of the most important states in India, and this meeting is equally significant. It will play a crucial role in bringing about the change the people of Bihar are looking for,” Pilot said.
