BJP National President and Rajya Sabha MP Nitin Nabin is set to attend a major International Day of Yoga programme in Punjab on June 21, where he will join Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal and thousands of participants in celebrations marking the global event.
The programme is being organised around a unique “12-12-12” theme, symbolising 12 years of the International Day of Yoga, 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to promote yoga at the global level, and the participation of nearly 12,000 people.
This year’s International Day of Yoga is being observed worldwide under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, highlighting the role of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and a better quality of life across all age groups.
Organisers said the event is expected to bring together students, faculty members, social leaders, public representatives, and citizens from different parts of the region. The gathering is anticipated to be among the largest Yoga Day celebrations in Punjab.
Ahead of the event, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal said yoga represents much more than physical exercise and serves as a pathway to holistic wellness, mental strength, and inner balance. He noted that yoga has emerged as a global movement and continues to gain widespread acceptance across countries.
“We aim to connect more than 12,000 individuals through yoga and convey the message that health, wellness, and inner harmony can strengthen communities and contribute to nation-building,” Dr. Mittal said.
He further stated that the international recognition received by yoga reflects the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in taking India’s ancient traditions and knowledge systems to the global stage.
Referring to this year’s theme, Dr. Mittal said “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” underlines the importance of adopting yoga as a lifelong practice capable of enhancing well-being at every stage of life. He also encouraged young people to make yoga a regular part of their daily routine.
Following the yoga session, Nitin Nabin, Dr. Mittal, and other dignitaries are expected to participate in discussions on youth empowerment, education, skill development, and developmental priorities for Punjab. The deliberations will also focus on opportunities for young people, economic growth, and broader nation-building initiatives.
Organisers said the event aims to reinforce the importance of wellness, collective participation, and healthy living while showcasing India’s cultural heritage and yoga’s growing contribution to global well-being.
