Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday assured that justice would be delivered to litigants within 3 years from 2027 given the strict implementation of the three newly-promulgated criminal laws.
Addressing a meeting at Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre (JECC) here after inaugurating the exhibition on the theme of the three new laws, he lauded these legislations as the most significant reform of the 21st century.
He said the incumbent NDA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a number of steps for reforms in the justice delivery system.
“The new laws have set all stages of legal trials and prosecution in the strict time-line, according to which the FIR registration formalities have to be completed under information to the complainant by 2 weeks. The charge sheet has to be filed by 60 days in normal cases and by 90 days in serious and otherwise complicated crimes. The hearing process from the beginning up to the level of the Supreme Court – if required-, would be complete within 3 years,” Shah said.
“As the deadlines for FIRs and the charge sheets were set while legislating the laws in July 2024, these were ridiculed as impractical, however, by the lapse of a year, as of now, the given deadlines have been achieved in more than 50 percent of the cases registered by the police. I hope that by another one year, these deadlines will be kept in more than 90 per cent of criminal cases,” he added.
The new laws also have provisions for the reforms in the process of the court trials, now onwards from the accused to all other involved parties and officials, including the police, prosecuting officers, lawyers and doctors would not require to appear personally before the court, all processes could be performed online through video conferencing.
This would not only save the time and other resources, but also avert risks – hazards related to the movement of the criminals from jail to the court, he elaborated.
However, the adoption of these reforms in cent per cent cases would take a couple of more years, he said, adding from 2027 onwards, justice would be delivered to litigants within 3 years.
Praising the Rajasthan government for organizing the exhibition that showcases the reforms therein the laws for generating mass awareness. He said that more and more visits of people to view exhibitions would ensure effective and implementation of reforms in the laws.
Shah also asked the exhibition organisers to extend its period beyond the scheduled closure on October 18 to enable more people to visit and see it.
He also lauded the Bhajan Lal Sharma led BJP government in the state for achieving success in realising ground breaking and other stages of implementation of projects of over Rs 7 lakh crore in less than a year since the signing of MoU at the Rising Rajasthan Global Investors Summit here in December last year.
Reacting to a comment from former chief minister Ashok Gehlot ridiculing the claims for success of the global business meet, Shah quipped “Gehlot Sa’ab should know that it’s is not about the Congress regimes, this is about the BJP government ; we do perform and achieve – what we commit to the people”.
Shah reminded the people of “huge relief given by Prime Minister ModiJi on the onset of Navratra by-way of the waiver or revision in the GST rates. This was meant to enable people to make Diwali festivities related purchases at a cheaper rate, he asserted”.
HM once more called on the people to buy Swadeshi goods only. Addressing women folk for adopting Swadeshi, Shah exhorted “Take resolve this Diwali that you would buy only Swadeshi goods made in India by the Indian artisans – workers”.
He also exhorted farming communities to increase sowing-harvesting of pulses and oil seed crops and assured that their produce of these crops would be procured cent percent by the government agencies on the minimum support price(MSP).
