The Central Library of the University of Patanjali on Wednesday marked the National Library Day in honour of the father of library science in India, Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, on his birth anniversary.
National Library Day is celebrated across the country on 12 August every year.
Speaking on the occasion, Patanjali University vice chancellor Prof Mayank Kumar Agarwal said that a library is not merely a place for collecting books but it is the centre for the dawn of knowledge.
“Even in the age of artificial intelligence, there is no substitute for a book,” he said.
Prof Agarwal further described books as the ‘real intelligence’, saying that nothing can be considered a substitute for the human mind, because books enhance human sensitivity.”
Head of the Faculty of Humanities and Oriental Studies, Prof. Sadhvi Devpriya, in her address, said that India has always been a worshipper of knowledge.
Without knowledge, no person can attain true freedom, she said, adding that India has held the status of Vishwaguru (world teacher) since ancient times due to its tradition and culture of knowledge, and that today there is a need to re-establish that tradition.
Highlighting the concept of ‘Readers are Leaders’, she called upon everyone to make India a ‘Vishwaguru’ once again.
Meanwhile, Dean (Academics) of the university, Prof. Ritwik Bisariya, urged students to spend more and more time in the library so that they can make the maximum use of the library and knowledge resources.
On this occasion, the university’s Swami Aarshdev, Head of the Department of Naturopathy and Yoga Therapy Prof. Toran Singh, Central Library President Ruchi Dheeman, Sangita, Rishikant, and Shekhar, along with Patanjali Ayurved College’s Library President Prashant Vashisth and Assistant Library President Tanya Kimoti, as well as all faculty heads, department heads, faculty members, and students were present.
