Expressing his gratitude to the daughters of India on ‘National Girl Child Day’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the nation was proud of the accomplishments of the girl child in various fields.

In a tweet, Modi said: “We salute the skills, strengths and fortitude of the girl child. We are proud of the accomplishments of the girl child in various fields.”

In a short video that Modi shared along with the tweet, he exhorted the people of the country to ensure that for every 1,000 boys born, there should be equal number of girls.

“Today, girls are no less than boys and are exceeding in all fields. Girls and boys are equal and to treat boys superior as girls is a malady which needs to be cured,” Modi said.

National girl child day is celebrated every year on January 24 as a national observance day to offer support and new opportunities to the girls in the country.

It is celebrated to increase the awareness among people about all the inequalities faced by the girl child in the society.
