A local court in Jhalawar on Sunday sent Meena leader Naresh Meena to judicial custody in a case related to “roughing up” of police personnel during a protest and demonstration at the Jhalawar hospital on Friday.

Meena and two others were produced before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Jhalawar Meenakshi Vyas.

Meena, along with his supporters, had held protests at the hospital on Friday where the victims of the school ceiling collapse incident of Piplodi village were being treated.

During the protest in support of the demand for compensation and government job for the next of kin of the deceased schoolchildren, Meena allegedly raised slogans and roughed up the policemen present there. The police had to use force to disperse the protesters.

Meena is an accused in infamous SDM slapping case during by-polls on the Deoli-Uniara assembly seat Samaravta village (Tonk) on November 13 last year. He was released on bail in the cases related to that incident on July 11 after almost 8 months of imprisonment under judicial custody. He was an Independent contestant in the Deoli-Uniara by-election.
