The Nainital High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the BCCI over alleged financial irregularities worth over ₹12 crore in the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU). The next hearing has been scheduled for September 12.
Hearing a series of petitions related to the alleged irregularities, a single-judge bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari sought an explanation from the BCCI, noting that a major portion of the funds allegedly misused by the CAU came from it. The court directed the BCCI to respond to the notice on September 12.
The petitioners argued that the CAU did not follow its own rules and its officials were deeply involved in misappropriation of public funds through falsified expenditure bills.
Petitioners, including Dehradun resident Sanjay Rawat, claimed that the association got its accounts audited by an external chartered accountant instead of its official auditor.
Rawat and others alleged that CAU officials embezzled more than ₹12 crore of association funds. They further claimed that facilities, particularly dietary provisions meant for players, were not provided. Instead, they alleged that the CAU submitted a bill of ₹35 lakh for bananas supposedly consumed by players.
The petitioners also pointed out that crores of rupees were shown as expenditure on players’ food and beverages during periods when no sporting events were held. They demanded an impartial probe into the matter.
